Foot Scanning And Orthotic Design

Foot Scanning And Orthotic Design

Technological advancements have developed specialized devices called scanners to enable more precise examination and assessment of the foot. These scanners provide detailed and accurate information about the foot and conditions that may not be evident through clinical examination alone.

3D scanning

3D scanners are devices capable of capturing three-dimensional images of the foot and its shape. These scans are ultimately utilized in the design of optimal custom orthotics. The 3D scanning method has emerged to provide more accurate foot measurements. It can provide comprehensive information about the foot’s surface, volume, and width profiles to the orthotist, surpassing other measurement methods in terms of precision. After capturing the data using these scanners, it is transferred to orthotic design software, which utilizes the three-dimensional foot model to design an appropriate orthotic. Following this stage, the designed orthotic is fabricated using three-dimensional printers, as mentioned earlier.

Dynamic Foot Scan

Dynamic foot scanning, which involves measuring plantar pressure during walking, provides scientific and accurate information about pressure distribution during walking. It can display the movement of the feet in real-time and throughout the gait cycle. Therefore, it provides precise information about the individual’s foot during walking, enabling the design of appropriate footwear.

Custom Orthotic Design

Custom orthotics are specifically designed based on the characteristics of each individual’s foot. To achieve this, at our superior clinic, we utilize devices for measuring static and dynamic foot pressure to significantly impact correcting and treating existing conditions and improving the individual’s comfort. After obtaining a foot scan, a custom orthotic is precisely designed by an orthopedic specialist using orthotic design software, and then it is fabricated using a CNC machine.
